“Apartheid” - a word very familiar to every South African. Separated, alienated, cut-off are all words that come to mind when we think about our history, but these words not only describe South Africa’s history, but they are major themes in story of all humanity!

In the letter to the Ephesians Paul unpacks the fundamental problem of humanity, and shows that all subsequent human alienation stems for our alienation from God. Nothing is more dehumanizing than this fundamental breakdown of relationship.

Paul shows us with great joy, how God in eternity past chose to rescue and adopt as his own children, a bunch of rebellious hell bound sinners, who Paul calls the Church. In Jesus’ death on the cross, God reconciles a people to himself and to one another and to the world. A new Humanity, a New Society, a People who are set apart to live as a new Community in the world, revealing the beauty and glory of their Father.

Ephesians is an incredibly practical letter, Paul shows us how being a member of this new kingdom comes purely by the grace of God, and is in no way the result of our goodness. Being reborn into this new family effects completely and radically the way we relate to one another. It effects our marriages, It changes the way we think about our work, it effects the way we raise our kids. Every aspect of life in this new community is different and new!

Come hear more, as we start our new series on Paul’s letter to Ephesians. Sundays 10am at the Bunker Bar. Starts 22nd January 2012

Carols by Candlelight

A great thanks to everyone who supported and helped at our Carols by Candlelight! We hope that the event was a great blessing to our community.

Gavin vn den Berg, our resident photographer, snapped some amazing shots. So if you would like to have a look at them, you can access the album here.

Jeff Vanderstelt is the pastor at Soma Communities in Tacoma, Washington. In this vid he shares their heart for wanting to see Jesus glorified in their neighborhood and in their city. I was greatly encouraged by it, and it just seemed like the prefect time watch it together on Sunday to end our four week study on our core identities. So for those of you who missed it, here it is. In the next few days, I’ll also post mp3’s for those four talks that we did.

We are starting a new Series/Course at the Vine on Sunday 24th July. Following on from the Vintage Jesus Course, we take a deeper look at the life of Jesus through the eyes of the Gospel writer Mark. This course is for both Christians and Sceptics. There will be plenty of time for discussion, interaction and questions. The story of Jesus shows us that he is a figure worthy of our attention: unpredictable yet reliable, gentle yet powerful, authoritative yet humble, human yet divine. Come join us for the course, and seriously consider the significance of his life in your own.

Join us every Sunday from 10am at our Service and Wednesday nights at 7pm for a bring & braai (drinks available at the Bunker Bar) and discussion. For further details please contact Lenny - 0845689189 or e-mail: BurgundyChurch@gmail.com

The Bible uses some incredible pictures to describe the Church. A Bride yearning for her wedding day and beautifying herself for it, a magnificent temple constructed from living stones which are carefully cut to fit perfectly together, a bustling city filled with people from every nationality and walk of life, an active body controlled by the head the Lord Jesus Christ. These are just some of the ways the Bible describes God’s people.

Over the next few weeks we will be working towards a Biblical view Church. Probally the most refreshing thing about studying what the Bible says about church, is that almost always, we come away recognising that, what we thought about church has either been wrong, or way too limited. That’s exciting, because that means, God’s plans and purposes for His people are so much greater than we every dreamed of! So join us this Sunday as we work out the practical implications of being God’s people here in Burgundy Estate.

The Greatness of the Great Commission
